Actor – Singer – Teacher
Melanie Young is a 22-year-old actor living and working in New York City. She graduated with a BFA in Musical Theatre from Pacific Lutheran University in 2022 and moved to the city in May 2023. She is an actor, a singer, a teacher, and, most importantly, a lover of the arts.

Actor
Though Melanie’s BFA degree concentrated on musical theatre, she is an actor first. Melanie began acting for the stage from a young age and immediately fell in love with this beautiful art form. She has trained in a variety of acting disciplines- Uta Hagen, late Stanislavski, Meisner- and feels great imagination is the key to excellent acting. Melanie especially enjoys dramatic acting and being in plays with a message she is passionate about. Recently, you may have seen her performing Greek theatre at Columbia University, or in The Laramie Project at Pacific Lutheran University.
Singer
Singing has always been one of Melanie’s great passions. She is a cross-trained singer, with roots in opera and musical theatre, and is classified as a soprano-belter. Her vocal range extends from E3 to F6. Notable performances include Cathy in The Last Five Years, Berthe in Pippin, and Adelaide in Guys and Dolls. Melanie’s favorite songs to sing include Cabaret from Cabaret, How Could I Ever Know from The Secret Garden, Changing my Major from Fun Home, and countless others. Teacher
Teaching is an incredibly fulfilling way of giving to the artistic community. Fostering love of music and theatre in young minds is such a precious, beautiful thing. Beginning in January of 2022, Melanie began music directing junior productions with local schools in Washington State, as well as with the Tacoma Musical Playhouse education program, CampTMP. After graduating in May 2022, Melanie opened her private voice studio, teaching both virtually and in-person with students aged 4-18. At her studio, Melanie strives to create a welcoming, encouraging environment while also training strong, healthy singers. Nothing is more exciting than nurturing new voices and celebrating each success, no matter how small.
